Dataquest T-School Survey -2019
Dataquest has always been on the forefront to help the IT industry in spotting the best institutes for their talent requirements in the country through their annual survey.
The 14 th dataquest T-School annual survey gives ample insights into the tech education landscape in India and unravels key dynamics in terms of the skills the tech schools are creating for the IT industry and their standing in terms of academic excellence, placements, infrastructure. The survey is aimed in such a way that it determines the Top-Technology Schools (B.E, B.Tech or similar level graduate technical courses)in the country and ranks them on a list of important parameters.
The Dataquest-CMR survey 2019 was done in two phases.
Phase 1 – Desk Research
In this phase, the CMR team will do exhaustive desk research so as to identify the list of all Tech Schools in the country, who were invited to be a part of the survey. Lists of Govt. institutes and private institutes were prepared separately.
Phase 2 – Primary Research
The Tech Schools short-listed in Phase 1 were approached by the CMR team. For the Tech Schools, both email responses and face-to-face interviews with the college were considered. The information collected was on four broad heads: placement, academic environment, infrastructure, and industry interface. These broad parameters constituted various sub-parameters as mentioned below.

THE RANKING
The ranking of the institutes was done separately for Govt. and Private.
Score: It was derived by calculating the weighted average of scores on the following broad parameters.
Parameters | Weights in % |
Placement | 40 |
Academic Environment | 30 |
Infrastructure | 15 |
Industry Interface | 15 |
The weights were pre-determined by CMR based on the experience of conducting such study for the last 13 years.
ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY
All the absolute data collected under each module were normalized and converted to relative data to evaluate the relative distance among the institutes across different parameters. After normalization, the data had been multiplied with respective weights of each parameter and then the total objective score was calculated for each module. The whole data was then arranged in descending order in the Govt. and Private category. And finally, the rankings will be given.
VALIDATION PROCESS:
CMR research team did all the data validation exercise. Validation team will check the list of companies visited in the campus, number of students recruited by each one of them and the salary offered to the students, placement brochure, institute prospectus, companies for whom consulting / industrial assignment has been done, name of journal where research paper has been published and official copy of semester results. Apart from these they also validate the data from secondary sources like the Institute’s website.
In the southern region, the top T-School list is dominated by privately owned colleges and universities. 6 out of the top 10 institutions are owned by private entities.
