SMARTER START TO INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS IN TAMIL NADU
The recent visit by our Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Chennai on November 21st, 2020 has been a remarkable event in the history of infrastructure developments in Tamil Nadu. He was received by our Chief Minister E Palaniswamy and O Panneeraselvam with their party executives in Chennai International airport.
Amit Shah visits our state capital to inaugurate foundation stone for eight different infrastructure projects across Tamil Nadu worth of Rs 67,378 crore. The infrastructure projects are as follows
1. Thervoy Kandigai reservoir Rs 380 crore
2. Chennai Metro Rail project – Phase II – Rs 61,843 crore
3. Elevated corridor on Coimbatore-Avinashi Road – Rs 1,620 crore
4. New barrage across the Cauvery at Nanjai Pugalur in Karur district – Rs 406 crore
5. Chennai Trade Centre extension project -Rs 309 crore
6. Indian Oil Corporation Terminal at Vallur in Tiruvallur district – Rs 900 crore
7. Lube plant at Amullaivoyal – Rs 1,400 crore
8. New berth at Kamarajar port in Chennai – Rs 900 crore
INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT DETAILS
1. Thervoy Kandigai reservoir will be Chennai’s fifth reservoir and the first reservoir built to outfit Chennai’s water necessities in the last 70 years. This reservoir located around 60 kilometers from Chennai. It comprises of 1,485 acres of land and launched in the year 2013 and combines two lakes, Thervoy Kandigai and Kannankottai, in Thiruvallur district.
2. Chennai Metro Rail project phase II traversing 118.9 km with 128 stations and will be expected fully operational by 2026. Project phase I has been successfully completed and opened fully for public usage. By completing this project Chennai city will be accessed to every portion of the city through metro rail.
3. The state highways department has started preliminary work for the elevated highway project of 10.01km along Avinashi Road. It will connect Uppilipalayam to Goldwins. Initially, Rs 200 crore fund has been allotted by the state government. Mainly to reduce traffic congestion in the stretches of Anna Statue, Nava India, Hopes College and Airport in Coimbatore city and around 18,000 square metres will be acquired for constructing the ramps.
4. The proposed barrage across the Cauvery between Nanjai Pugalur in Karur district and Anichampalayam in Namakkal district has been planned to stock 80 tmc of water. The objective of this project to recharge groundwater in and around Nanjai Pugalur and Mohanur (Namakkal district). The length of 1,056 metres and with 5 metres height and the depth of storage with 73 vents, it has been premeditated to regulate 3.6 lakh cusecs of water.
5. Chennai Trade Centre (CTC) is in the progression of expanding the facility’s capacity at at Nandambakkam with an estimated cost of Rs 300 core. The trade centre has been expanded from about 20,000sqm to 40,000sqm to attract international exhibitions in Chennai Trade Centre. This project leads the way to start the city with modern technology in a smarter way.
6. Indian Oil Corporation Terminal at Vallur in Tiruvallur district. It has been shifted from Korukkupet and Tondiarpet to Vallur. The project imitated with new pipelines from Ennore to Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited. The refinery has been planned in Manali to distribute fuel needs of Chennai and nearby cities. Lube plant at Amullaivoyal with a worth of Rs 1,400crore and a new jetty structure at Kamaraj port to encourage cargo export and development water transportation system in India.
