Revealing Mysteries of Strange Places
Revealing Mysteries of Strange Places
There are places which are associated with many fantastic stories, mysteries and mysterious affairs. Some caused by natural phenomena, some due to the strange climatic conditions, and others for which we are still searching for an explanation; traveling across the World is nothing more than a roller coaster trip. In this blog, I would like to share some interesting facts about some places. The places I mentioned here have a unique beauty and their facts are beyond our expectations. Read this article to know about them.
Also, these places are said to be mysterious!
The Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle is a part of the North Atlantic Ocean whose boundaries form the edges of a triangle. It is situated in a region where storms can strike from several directions, raising the likelihood of rogue waves. With all these strange things, it is believed that it is the world’s most celebrated mystical location. Anonymously it is identified that many aircraft and ships have vanished into the air or crashed mysteriously. But there is still a great mystery behind these strange accidents
In the middle of the nineteenth century, some ships vanished for no reason; others did not convey any signs of distress and were not seen again. Aircraft signals were registered and then suddenly disappeared. Rescue flights were sent to identify the missing flights, but unfortunately, those rescue flights too disappeared while they flied over or crossed that area. Though there are hypotheses about supernatural powers for these vanishing of flights, geophysical and environmental factors are the most responsible as per the view of scientists. There is even one more explanation that the pilots failed to account for the agonic line (when it is crossing that particular location)— i.e., the location where the magnetic compass variation is not required to compensate
Another common assumption is that the missing vessels have been felled by the”rogue waves,” which are large waves that can reach heights more than 25 meters. This height is large enough to make a ship or aircraft to immerse in water.
Blood Falls (Antarctica)
The blood-red waterfalls flow down the white surface of the glacier in Antartica. In 2014 scientists decided that the color is due to the presence of iron and it is oxidized in the deep water under a glacier where it reacts with the pool of salt water. But when we look at the falls it will look like a crime scene in Antarctica as it is red in color. Though the place situated is having very interesting and amazing facts, it is very remote to visit. The scientists have worked for more than 100 years to identify the reason for red color as it is a very strange natural phenomenon but still the reason for red color remains unidentified. Blood Falls, discovered by geologists in 1911, the bloody red waterfall that flows into Lake Bonney from the Taylor Glacier in Antarctica’s Dry Valleys. Two million years ago, the Taylor Glacier buried a tiny body of water in about 400 meters below. The water which is under 400m contained many microbes. There was no light or oxygen, but very little heat in a very extreme environment. Therefore the lake had been stuck all these years where a high amount of salinity and plenty of iron are found.
Eternal Flame Falls (Chestnut Ridge Park, New York)
In New York’s Chestnut Ridge Park, a waterfall is blinking with an orange-red color which is similar to bright red light and it looks like a fairy tale. It is noticed that the fire is burning behind the water due to the methane gas, which is fuelled in the water. Due to the fire and excess temperature, the rocks present inside the water cracks during the flow of waterfalls. The water often extinguishes the flames, but visitors also light it up to keep the magic alive. Scientists believed that the eternal flame of New York had been held alight by gas produced from ancient, incredibly hot rocks for years.
Great Blue Hole (Belize)
The Great Blue hole was made famous by Jacques Cousteau who declared it as the world’s top five scuba diving sites. Stalactites have been retrieved from submerged caves, through which the previous over sea level formation is identified. Many of these stalactites were also in a strong slanting direction, indicating that there had been some past geological shift and tilting of the underlying plateau accompanied by a long period in the current plane.
The tilt suggests that there was a land change instead of a sea-level increase. The hole’s original depth was 125 m but it is said that some have measured accurately and got as 124 m due to the continued sedimentation.
The purpose of the expedition was to gather core samples from the floor of the Blue Hole and document the cave system. To perform those activities, all the divers had to be trained in cave diving and mixed gases. Two submarines sank into the Blue Hole in December 2018 in an attempt to identify the interior mystery. From all these experiments the team could complete a 1000-foot-wide 3-D map of the hole using the sonar scanning process.
The Great Blue Hole name is very catchy and yet spectacular in size and beauty. This massive, remote sea-hole off the coast of Belize is 1000×400 feet deep. The trained divers can dive and enjoy the crystal clear waters and marine life.
Lake Hillier (Australia)
The lake is located in Western Australia. The lake is small to be noticed with the dimensions 600×250 meters. The reason for the lake’s unique color is still not understood by scientists. Some scientists have identified that the color is due to the presence of the Dunaliella Salina microalgae. Biologists have found that Dunaliella produces carotenoids, which is a pigment found in carrots through which it gets its natural color. So the reaction between the presence of salt in the water and the sodium bicarbonate, which is also found in the water may cause this color. The lake is surrounded by medicinal plant eucalyptus and paperback trees. There are some pink lakes identified by scientists around the world, but it is said that the water in this lake has been always pink in color even when it is poured in a glass.
People used to collect salt from the lake for a few years, but due to its special and strange characteristics, it is used as a tourism spot these days. The water of the lake is clear and does not affect human skin. In reality, swimming in the water of the lake is healthy and enjoyable, but is impossible for normal tourists because the lake cannot be visited. It has plenty of fish living inside and it is also found that it is very much suitable for swimming. But unfortunately, the permission is not given to the visitors to swim. The explanation for the color of Lake Hillier remains unknown, but it is found that it may be due to the chemical reactions.
The lake is isolated from the Southern Ocean by a thin strip of sand and it is commonly assumed that the permanent hue of the water’s strawberry milkshake is due to its exceptionally high salinity. This discovery was made in 1802 when Matthew Flinders undertook an expedition to the islands and obtained a sample from the water, although there was no conclusive evidence that salt was the source of its distinctive shade.
In the end the mysteries revealed wonderful souvenirs. There are many places in the world, which are far from our expectations. The explorations can be done to identify some more interesting facts about more strange and mysterious places. Hope through this a dream journey has been achieved with virtual experiences.
