India is home to the best historical monuments in the world, which is rich in culture and diversity. The historical monuments are rich in heritage and have ancient architecture. Also, India has been a home and a battleground for a lot of dynasties, empires, kingdoms, and governments. Each of them left their mark in the country. The remnants of those times or oldest historical monuments remind us of what our culture has been through and who influenced the historical events. In the previous article, we have seen some of the important monuments of India such as the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Golden Temple, and Sanchi stupa. Now, in this article, we will discover and experience the magnificent monuments of India and some interesting facts about it.
Hawa Mahal, Jaipur
The Hawa Mahal is located at the heart of the Jaipur which is the capital of Rajasthan. The Hawa Mahal which is also called the palace of winds was one of the great monuments of royal Rajputs of Rajasthan. Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh constructed a five-story palace in Pyramid shape for royal family women by using red and pink sandstones.
Interesting Facts about Hawa Mahal
The most important fact about the Golden Temple is that its foundation stone is laid by a Muslim saint Sufi Saint Sai Hazrat Mian Mir. The Hawa Mahal didn’t have an entry in the front side of the palace. However, the entry is through the door existing in the side of the palace. Some of the interesting facts of Hawa Mahal are as follows,
- Hawa Mahal was built by Kachhwaha Rajput ruler Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the year 1799 which has a history of about 200 years.
- The distinct feature of Hawa Mahal is its sole architecture of having 953 Windows.
- Hawa Mahal is also called as Palace of Breeze.
- It is deisgned by Lal Chand Ustad as a five storied building which is an extension of city palace of pink city.
- It is extended from city palace edge to Women’s chambers aka zenana.
- The architectural style of Hawa Mahal is a fusion of Islamic, Mughal and Rajput.
- The Hawa Mahal is made up of red and pink sandstone with a height of 50 feet.
- Among the five floors, Sharad Mandir exists on the first floor while the Ratan Mandir with colorful glasswork is on the second floor. Vichitra Mandir, Prakash Mandir, and Hawa Mandir adorn the top three floors.
Bahai Temple, Delhi
The Bahai Temple situated near Kalka ji is also called the Lotus Temple. It is a best place for meditation and peace and also a common Worship house for all religions. The structure of Lotus Temple is dedicated to Bahai’s Faith and is in the form of White Lotus petals. This concept is designed by Canadian architect Fariborz Sahba and was completed in the year 1986. It is made up of white marble and the lotus symbol is common to Hinduism, Islam, Jainism and Bhuddism. Arround the petals, there are nine pools of water that lights up under natural light.
Interesting Facts about Bahai Temple, Delhi
- The lotus temples are also called Mashriqu’l-Adhkár and the public is allowed to visit in 1986.
- It spreads across 26 acres of land which is surrounded by a lush green landscaped garden.
- There are 27 petals grouped into three and also the nine entrances led to the huge central hall of about 40 m in height.
- It is one of the most visited places in the world with visitors to about 4.5 million.
- The Bahai temple is included in the Rs.6.50 stamp in India.
- It is the first temple that makes use of solar power. Among the total electrical usage of 500 kW, 120kW is obtained from solar power.
- The prayer hall has a capacity of 25000 people.
- The Bahai temple is one of the seven worship houses for Bahai Religion around the world.
- The other centers are in Sydney, Panama city, Apia, Kampala, Frankfurt, and Wilmette.
- More than 10,000 different sizes of marbles are used to complete the structure of the lotus temple.
