Ecofriendly Vehicles – A Way to a Greener Planet
The current world and its environment, with the fastest global warming rate in the history of the Earth, has driven us to rethink the technologies that we use today. This article emphasises how eco-friendly transport can help make the Earth more sustainable.
Climatic Changes in the World
The climatic changes drastically affect the temperature of the globe. The temperature of the earth is increased by 1.1.C when compared to the temperature in the 18th century. The year range 2015-2019 has recorded the warmest year on the record. The famous climatic agency “Atlas of Mortality and Economic Losses from Weather, Climate and Water Extremes” has stated that 50 per cent of all natural disasters are due to climatic changes. Furthermore, the World Health Organization states that 7 million people die due to air pollution every year.
Causes for Air pollution
The major cause of air pollution is the emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, carbon mono oxide, methane from various industrial sources. The automobiles are the major cause of air pollution accounts nearly 30% of the air pollutants. This will lead to increase in the trapping of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The trapping of gases leads to natural calamities like storms, floods and droughts The major alternate solution to the problem is switching to green energies. Switching of green energies in industries, automobiles will drastically help in reducing the climatic changes. This article covers about the emerging Ecofriendly Vehicles.
Ecofriendly Vehicles
E vehicles otherwise known as Ecofriendly vehicles is the blooming and growing sector in the automobile industries. E vehicles emit very less or no carbon compounds into the atmosphere. This type of vehicles consumes very less fuel or runs solely on electricity. These vehicles emit very lesser zero harmful greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. There are two types of ecofriendly vehicles available in the market. They are Hybrid and Electric Vehicles. Let us take a brief look at these Hybrid vehicles.
Hybrid Vehicles
The hybrid vehicles are having hybrid engine that works both on fossil fuels and electricity. It has an internal combustion engine and a motor. The motor will run from the source stored in the battery. The battery is get charged by the regenerative braking and internal combustion engine of the vehicle There is no need for the user to plug in the charge cable to the battery for charging. These types of vehicles will give high fuel economy to the vehicle owner and low emission to the atmosphere.
Key Components of the Hybrid Vehicle
As a buyer of Hybrid vehicle, one should know the key components or features of the Hybrid Vehicles. They are auxiliary battery, generator and converter system, electric motor, internal combustion engine, controllers and battery pack.
Let us take a glance on the function of the components. The auxiliary battery is the key part which provides the electricity to the vehicle during starting. The electric generator, converter, controller and electric motor are the main features of the electrical system. The generator generates electric power from the running wheels during braking and transfers the energy to the battery pack for storage.
Types of Hybrid Vehicle
The electric motor drives the wheels and the controller circuit controls the power delivered to the motor. The controller also controls the speed of the motor. Based on the battery type, this vehicle can be classified into two types. They are mild hybrid vehicle and full hybrid vehicles. The mild hybrid vehicle runs mostly on fossil fuels than electricity. This electric vehicle will have less fuel economy than full hybrid vehicles.
On the other side, full hybrid vehicles will have electric motors and battery packs of high capacity. These full hybrid vehicles will only use the fossil fuels during the emergency periods like full drainage of battery packs. The detailed picture of a hybrid car is shown below for easy understanding.
In short, the hybrid vehicles are environmentally friendly, quiet and safe driving vehicles but these vehicles require high capital cost and still require fossil fuels for its operation. yah! We can make a look on electric vehicles also.
Electric Vehicles
If the vehicles have an electric motor instead of an IC engine, the vehicle is known as Electric vehicle. This vehicle generally plugged into the power source for charging the battery. This vehicle does not pollute the environment. These cars are in blooming stage and it will occupy 30% of the vehicle production by 2030.
Challenging Factors
The challenging factor in this type of vehicles is long trip and location of charging stations. So, the user has to consider this factor for buying this type of cars. Now days, these cars also come with design factors for longer travel and with large battery backups. The key components of the vehicles are battery, charge port, converter and controller.
Key Features of Electric Vehicle
The battery arrangement is almost in the same way to the hybrid vehicles except the absence of internal combustion engine. The battery provides power to the electric motor during the start-up and running conditions of the vehicles. This vehicle will have a proper cooling system which is used to maintain the proper temperature in converter, battery and motor of the car.
These vehicles emit zero emission of harmful gases, having wide infrastructure and it provides quite safe journey to the users. On the other hand, these types of vehicles require high capital cost to buy and higher insurance costs. The reason for the higher insurance cost is the components in the car. The parts assembled in the cars are quite expensive. They incur high maintenance costs if needed.
Furthermore, the cooling system also plays a crucial role in these vehicles. The manufacturing cost required for the vehicles is also high. The manufacturers feels that the design of the infrastructure is also a risky process If we work on the challenging factors, the electric cars are going to be a special boon to the globe.
Healthy Choices for Driving Electric Vehicle
The choices for reducing this risk factors are enormous like solar charging, installation of charging centers at uniform distances etc. The government should give subsidiaries to the people like exemption from paying road taxes, toll charges, allowances for insurance charges. This would encourage the people to buy these types of cars.
The government should also encourage the industries manufacturing these cars by giving allowances. They can give subsidiaries in their manufacturing and assembling cost. Likewise, research should also be carried out in this sector to find the alternate feasible solutions.
As an endnote to this article, the world should find alternate measures like usage of renewable energy sources like solar, Hydrogen fuels, electricity in the transportation sector. This measures not only saves the environment of the globe but also our future generation. on the one hand, “A greener environment leads to a wealthy future”.
