PREDICTING THE FUTURE ISN’T MAGIC, IT’S ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE | PART-1
Since the invention of computers or machines, their ability to perform various tasks went on growing exponentially. Humans have developed the power of computer systems in terms of their various working domains, their increasing speed, and decreasing size with respect to time.
A branch of Computer Science named Artificial Intelligence proceeds creating computers or machines as intelligent as human beings.
What is Artificial Intelligence?
John McCarthy, who invented the term in 1956, defines it is “The science and engineering of creating intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs” and so he was called as the “Father of Artificial Intelligence”.
One of the most instrumental technologies in industrial operations today, Artificial Intelligence is a way of developing a computer, a computer-controlled robot, or a software think intelligently, in a related manner the intelligent humans think.
AI is performed by studying how human brain thinks, and how humans learn, decide, and work while analyzing to solve a problem, and then using the results of this study as a basis of improving intelligent software and systems.
Do you know, what is the Philosophy of AI?
While utilizing the power of the computer systems, the interest of human, lead him to wonder, “Can a machine think and perform as humans do?”
Thus, the development of AI started with the purpose of creating similar intelligence in machines that we find and appreciate high in humans.
Goals of AI
- To Plan Expert Systems − The systems which manifest intelligent behavior, learn, demonstrate, explain, and advice its users.
- To Achieve Human Intelligence in Machines − Creating systems that understand, think, learn, and act like humans.
What Contributes to AI?
Artificial intelligence is a science and technology based on methods such as Computer Science, Biology, Psychology, Linguistics, Mathematics, and Engineering. A major advance of AI is in the development of computer functions incorporated with human intelligence, such as reasoning, learning, and problem-solving.
The phenomenal technological advancements that have occurred in the past few years have borne fruit to a plethora of industries in the professional world. It is not merely the more technologically inclined industries like IT, finance and defense that have benefited.
The proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT) among others have disrupted industries such as healthcare, fashion, agriculture, real estate, marketing, media, insurance, transportation, education, entertainment and travel, and hospitality as well.
What is AI Technique?
In the real world, knowledge has some unwelcomed properties −
- Its volume is huge, next to unthinkable.
- It is not well-organized or well-formatted.
- It keeps growing constantly.
AI Technique is a manner to create and use the knowledge efficiently in such a way that −
- It should be observable by the people who provide it.
- It should be easily modifiable to correct errors.
- It should be useful in many situations though it is half-done or inaccurate.
AI techniques elevate the speed of achievement of the complex program it is provided with.
Applications of AI
The AI applications are simply endless, and the ascendence of computer science is unsurprising. AI has been governing in various fields such as −
Gaming − AI plays a vital role in strategic games such as chess, poker, tic-tac-toe, etc., where the machine can think of a large number of possible conditions based on heuristic knowledge.
Natural Language Processing − It is possible to communicate with the computer that understands the natural language spoken by humans.
Expert Systems − There are some applications which unite machine, software, and special information to reveal reasoning and advising. They afford explanation and advice to the users.
Vision Systems − These systems understand, interpret, and perceive visual input on the computer. For example,
- A spying airplane takes photographs, which are used to count out spatial information or map of the areas.
- Doctors use a clinical specialist system to diagnose the patient.
- Police use computer software that can appreciate the face of criminal with the stored portrait made by the forensic artist.
Speech Recognition − Some intelligent systems are competent in hearing and understanding the language in terms of sentences and their meanings while a human talks to it. It can handle different rhythms, slang words, noise in the background, turn in human’s noise due to cold, etc.
Handwriting Recognition − The handwriting recognition software translates the text written on paper by a pen or on screen by a stylus. It can identify the shapes of the letters and convert them into editable text.
Intelligent Robots − Robots are able to execute the tasks given by a human. They have sensors to recognize physical data from the real world such as light, heat, temperature, movement, sound, bump, and pressure. They have effective processors, multiple sensors and huge memory, to manifest intelligence. In addition, they are capable of learning from their errors and they can adjust to the new environment.
AI is being used for research and development, predictive analytics, real-time operation management, risk management, and content distribution among various other applications.
