‘SAY NO TO PLASTICS’ was the alarming phrase that we have come over the last decades.
Though the fact of plastic bags ban is genuine, none of us took the courage to stand for the cause. So, What is the alternative for this? is the question that arose in our minds.
Hence, the Department of Fashion Technology came up with an alternative solution called “Snug Bag”.
200 Snug Bags – “One of The Best Alternatives for Plastic Bags”
Plastic has only been around for 60-70 years but it’s already begun to negatively impact the natural environment and create problems for plants, wildlife, and even human population.
To create an awareness among the public about the reusable cotton rope bags using the Technique of Macrame Knotting, Department of Fashion Technology has conducted an event to make a record in India Book of Records.
During the event around 500 people (250 teams across all departments of BIT) gathered in the BIT auditorium on 07.09.2019 to make 200 bags and attempt a record under the title ‘Maximum Handcrafted Snug Bags Made using Macrame Knots’.
The event was conducted successfully and the people who participated achieved a massive record in India Book of Records.
The Snug bag is very similar to the net bags we use for our daily purpose. It features widely / narrowly spaced rows of Alternating Square Knots, which creates a design similar to a fishnet.
India Book of Records

Mr.Vivek Nair, Adjudicator – India Book of Records assessed and declared the record attempt during the felicitation ceremony. The department has set a record by doing 200 bags.
Our Principal Dr.C.Palanisamy, Dean – PDS Dr.K Sivakumar, Dean- TSD Dr.P.Thangaraj and Dr.K.Saravanan HoD Fashion Technology witnessed the event and were present during the felicitation.
Ms.R.Priya (AP-FT) organized the event. Ms.D.V Saranya (AP-FT) and Ms ShanmugaPriya. V (AP-FT) were the co-coordinators.
Students of Art and Design Cell and students clan of FT department coordinated the works along with the teaching and non-teaching members of the department.
