The Delta Advanced Automation Contest – an international level contest that supports the spirit of education reform and the building of platforms for automation technology teaching in universities. It also aims to generate enthusiasm among college students by promoting extracurricular scientific and technological activities in automation technology.
The Contest echoes Delta’s brand spirit of “Smarter. Greener. Together” and strengthens college students’ programming and debugging skills by integrating theory and practice.
In addition to developing student innovation capacity and spirit of cooperation, the Contest enhances exchanges and cooperation between colleges and enterprises.
BITians Participated in the international level contest in China on Behalf of India
Firstly our BIT students cracked the first position in National level Project proposal submission for their project “Better Future Work”.
There were various educational institutions like Anna University, CEG, VIT, R.V.College of engineering, Bangalore, SRM University and other universities from India who had submitted a project proposal for this contest.
Among all the colleges and Universities from India BITians got selected as first for their project proposal to participate in the finals in China on behalf of India.
Our BIT students became one of the semi-finalists in the 6th Delta Advanced Automation contest and gave on-site demos and proposal presentations, at the final ceremony in China on 22- 26 July 2019.
The Contest was divided into two stages:
- The online preliminaries
- finals (on-site demo for semi-finals and oral defence for the final)
The best 75 teams were shortlisted from the colleges and Universities from Taiwan, China, Thailand and India to participate, interact and share their ideas in the finals on the theme “Seeking a smart IIOT talents” held at the Delta Electronics Plant, Wujiang, China during 22.07.2019 to 26.07.2019.
Our Bannari Amman Institute of Technology students from Department of Mechatronics, Automation Lab – T. Tharunselvan, K. C. Suhas, E. Sanjay Krishnan under the guidance of Mr SIVABALAKRISHNAN R, Asst. Prof, Mechatronics, participated in the international level IIOT talent contest and presented a project titled “IoT based smart factory for additive manufacturing with visual inspection using Machine Learning approach” in the finals and received Second Prize with Cash Award Rs.20,000/- on 26th July 2019.
About the Project
The uniqueness of the IoT based smart factory is Real-Time controlling and monitoring the manufacturing process without the physical presence of the admin. In addition, it has a special provision in updating the product’s status to the clients.
Words from the BIT – International level Achievers:
“ In this new system, we have built an IoT dashboard with individual credentials for both admin and client. Admin dashboard gives an autonomy power for admin to switch on the system through the net from anywhere. Client dashboard has the provision for product ordering and tracking.
After ordering the product in the dashboard, our smart manufacturing system starts printing the 3D part based on the information from the client dashboard. In the next level, a four-axis SCARA robot will assemble the printed materials through the pneumatic gripper.
To ensure the correctness of shape and dimension as well as the quality of the product, Visual Inspection will be done by using the vision system.
Vision system identifies whether a product has a defect or not. If a product does not have any defect, it will go automatically to the packing process. If a product has a defect in it, then the defects will be automatically registered only in the admin dashboard. ”
Experiences of BITians That is Beyond the Price
Our students have visited Delta Electronics Manufacturing Plant for getting a real-time experience of the automated PCB manufacturing process.
They have attended the career empowerment program during this event for knowing the various opportunities in the automation field.
The finals was an exciting solution sharing event, and an excellent opportunity to learn for both students and the audience. Finalists had gone through powerpoint slides proposal briefing, performed a remote live demo and provided an oral defence with professionals.
The judging panel comprised of industry professionals, experienced professors and lecturers, and senior technical directors from the Delta Group.
Congratulations to the team B-Iotians on behalf of Bannari Amman Institute of Technology and Management for a whole lot of achievement.
You deserve the heartiest appreciation for your sincerity, dedication, and commitment of each one of you for performing with excellence. You have proven your abilities and talents. Keep up the spirit guys!
