COVID’19 – Building Immunity
Coronavirus has caught the attention of everyone across the globe. It has affected 207 countries and many people are in blind panic, fear and anxiety. People across the world are locked into their houses for months together depending upon the quick spread. While some adhere to the restrictions imposed for public benefit, some enjoy jumping rules and eventually pose a huge risk not only to themselves but to the neighbourhood also.
On the whole, people are distanced from entertainment places, malls, pubs, social gathering, fun, parties and spiritual and ceremonial gathering. In such a situation, it is widely suggested that we both adhere to the state-imposed norms, and keep our immunity boosted as well. Some suggestions for boosting our immunity are made here.
Researchers, scientists and experts are putting enormous efforts seeking an end to all distress. Teams of doctors, nurses, police officials and topmost government officers toil day and night, globally, in support of the public welfare and COVID patients. Nothing is impossible in this world.
If people maintain their health well it is easy to come out of the infectious virus.
Despite all mental pressures people can quit their worries by enhancing the physical health condition of each and every one. Fortunately, we in India already have our food habits that will naturally put us in a better position to safeguard our health by boosting our immunity. Following are certain things to consider to improve immunity:
1. Consumption of Vitamin C:
Consumption of Vitamin C plays a pivotal role in the battle of immunity. Continuous intake of this will help fight against common cold, sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Vitamin C ensures a high level of antioxidant in the body and prevents oxidative stress.
Indians can have a wide variety of fruits and vegetables which are rich in Vitamin C. Especially, patients who are affected by the Coronavirus can eat the fruit as a whole instead of having it as juice. For example:
Fruits: Orange, Lemon, Guava, Tomato etc.,
Vegetables: Cauliflower, Spinach, Cabbage, leafy greens etc.,
2. Vitamin D:
Vitamin D is plentifully available in fruits, vegetables and meat. Consumption of Vitamin D will protect the infections in the respiratory system. Another natural way to acquire Vitamin D is to stand in the sunshine for 10-15 minutes every day from eleven to eleven-thirty in the forenoon. This will enable the body to fight against the infectious virus from proliferation.
Vitamin D Foods: Fish, Mango, Papaya, Sweet potato etc.,
3. Zinc:
Intake of Zinc will strengthen White Blood Corpuscles (WBC). Deficiency in Zinc will lead to many health issues like Common cold, flu and respiratory problems. Older people need to take Zinc in large portions with Doctor’s advice.
ZINC Foods: Almonds, Chicken, Cashew, Milk etc.,
4. Turmeric and Garlic:
Pungent and exotic smell of garlic and turmeric make wonders in building the immune function. Turmeric is the speciality of our soil (Erode District) contains a compound called curcumin. Consumption of curcumin will mitigate pain caused in the last stages of cancer. Garlic acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory and also enhances immunity. Indians consume turmeric and garlic in abundance. In turn, this will enable people to enjoy robust health.
These habits can help increase immunity for not only for those who are affected, but also for the others to help them prevent contracting the disease.
Finally, we should also help fight the stigma against those who are affected. While appropriate practices can help us stay away from the disease, we should also be concerned for both the physical and mental well being of those who are already affected. Never hurt those who are affected by COVID-19 or those who have already recovered.
